Introduction

In a time when many foods are genetically modified and produced by big corporations on giant factory farms, there is a small but growing following of people that call themselves locavores. A locavore is someone who is committed to eating food that is grown or produced within their local community or region (Generally either 100 or 250 miles, depending on the persons location). By eating locally, most locavores hope to create a greater connection between themselves and their food sources, resist industrialized and processed foods, and support their local economy. In general, locavores believe that locally grown food is fresher, better-tasting, more nutritious, and provides a healthier diet than typical industrial produced foods that are doused with pesticides and fertilizers before being transported thousands of miles. I am creating this blog to explore these ideas and give some real world experiences and thoughts of why the locavore life is becoming so increasingly popular.

  1. Eat locally heard it a million times but the term locavore I had never heard before. I love your topic and hope to get some ideas from your blog on becoming a better locavore.
